Row to Succeed: The Complete Rowing Guide for Juniors, Coaches and Parents
Row to Succeed is now available on Amazon. It is the rowing title in our Sports & Fitness series, written for three readers at once: the junior athlete, the coach, and the parent standing on the bank.
Eight Sections, One Pathway
The book moves in the order a rower actually grows: the sport and its pathway, the equipment, the stroke, the training that builds the engine, fuelling, the athlete’s mind and habits, racing, and the step on to senior and international rowing. Technique is covered for sculling, sweep rowing and coxing, with rigging, blades and ergs explained as part of the same picture rather than as an afterthought.
For Every Person at the Boathouse
Junior athletes get structured training plans and erg benchmark tables for boys and girls. Parents get a regatta survival guide, advice on supporting without over-coaching, and a kit-buying guide. Coaches get session structures and a novice-to-junior framework. Adult beginners will also find a learn-to-row section and an introduction to club culture.
Honest About Numbers
The benchmark figures draw on published British Rowing and Concept2 data and real junior regatta results, and the book does not invent standards to make a table look tidier. Where individual athletes differ, as they do enormously through adolescence, it says so.
Where to Start
If you are new to the sport, start with the pathway and safety chapters. If you already row, go straight to the section you need: stroke, training or racing. If you want the story behind the sport in Ireland first, our post on Skibbereen Rowing Club is a good companion read.
